About Dr Raman-Abdulla

Dr Laila Raman-Abdulla is a highly accomplished ophthalmologist with a distinguished academic and clinical background. A graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand, she holds specialist qualifications in ophthalmology and has completed a Master’s degree with her research focus on eye surgery for ocular cancer in HIV positive patients. She is a Fellow of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa and continues to contribute meaningfully to both clinical practice and institutional academic development.

Dr Raman-Abdulla currently serves as Head of Unit at Leratong Regional Hospital, where she is actively involved in clinical leadership, the training of young doctors, and ongoing research initiatives. Her clinical interests include Oculoplastic surgery, Glaucoma and Paediatric Ophthalmology.

Dr Raman-Abdulla also performs crosslinking for patients with Keratoconus and manages various corneal surface diseases following advanced international training through the European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology (ESASO).

Her approach to patient care is defined by precision, integrity, and a commitment to ensuring that every patient feels informed, reassured, and confidently guided throughout their treatment journey.
